Roles and responsibilities

Provide marine pilotage to all types of vessels calling at QatarEnergy Operated Ports. Marine pilotage includes approaches channels navigation, harbour movements and offshore Single Point Mooring (SPM).
Navigating Vessels:
Pilot Ships into and out of Ports: Guide ships safely in and out of harbors, through narrow or difficult channels, and across potentially dangerous waters.
Monitor Ship's Progress: Oversee the vessel’s movement, taking into account factors such as tides, weather, currents, and water depth to ensure safe passage.
Make Real-Time Adjustments: React to changing conditions such as shifts in wind, sea state, or vessel behavior by making necessary course adjustments.
Safety and Risk Management:
Ensure Safe Passage: Minimize risks by taking precautions to avoid collisions, grounding, or accidents, especially in crowded or challenging waters.
Assess Weather Conditions: Evaluate real-time weather conditions, including wind, waves, and visibility, and adjust the vessel's navigation plan accordingly.

Collaboration with the Ship’s Crew:
Work Closely with Ship’s Captain and Crew: Communicate regularly with the captain and crew to ensure that the ship is following the pilot’s instructions accurately.
Provide Detailed Guidance: Offer specific instructions on vessel speed, course changes, and maneuvering, as well as any other operational requirements needed during the voyage.
Assist with Berthing and Docking: In addition to piloting the vessel, assist the captain and crew with complex docking and undocking operations, using tugboats or other support vessels as needed.

Desired candidate profile

A minimum of 10 years Sea going experience as officer of the watch with at least 5 years experience on large size vessel (VLCC, Capesize) in capacity as Chief Officer or Master. Or 5 years Sea going experience on large size vessel (VLCC, Capesize) as Chief Officer or Master, and 5 years as Pilot on all types of vessel.
- Detail knowledge of International, State and Local regulations pertaining to Port operations, logistics, and fully familiar with International Maritime Conventions such as SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, etc.
- Detail knowledge of the management of large-scale port cargo operations including port rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to operations and activities.
- Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of work in a port operations area.
Good organizational planning skills and able to plan, execute and complete targets without supervision
- Ability to communicate and work with people at all levels of the QatarEnergy organization, both internally and externally.
- Innovative thinker and self-starter with proven leadership.
- Ability to express ideas and information, clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing in English language, requires QatarEnergy English level L5.
- Ability to work within a focused team of maritime and port professionals. Performance orientated and able to work to the delivery of agreed targets.
- Strong analytical and administration skills.
- Ability to work under stress
